IRS CAPITULATES, RETURNS VEHICLE

Montrose, Colorado – In my last article, “Attorney Michael Minns Beats IRS, Again.” This riveting expose gave in-depth coverage about the solid defeat inflicted on the IRS by Houston, Texas attorney Michael Minns, the architect of a defense for a Montrose, CA couple, James and Pamela Moran, standing trial on 64 counts of sundry tax crimes. With the acquittal on all counts this reporter issued a challenge to get the Morans’ Jeep back.

This challenge was answered on April 23, 2008, when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) quietly, and ever so discreetly, capitulated to the trial outcome and returned the Morans’ Jeep, stolen from them by the IRS in 2001. Incidentally, the same year the Jeep was illegally stolen, Minns’ book, “How to survive the IRS” was released by Barricade Press. ...MORE

I hate the IRS - Vote Ron Paul - video

[WARNING: video contains off-color language. - ed.]

A senior citizen tells it as it is - with some very down-to-"earth" language - about her experiences with the IRS. She supports Ron Paul.

viewer comment: "Even if he doesn't win, Ron Paul will most certainly get my vote. I'm sick and tired of people allowing the media to influence their vote and I think it's disgraceful how the media has been largely ignoring Ron Paul's candidacy, hoping that he'd just drop out of the election and go away. It's obvious that their corporate masters have favored John McCain all along because he's gotten almost all of the attention from the media."

IRS fraud exposed by the late Aaron Russo

Do you think there's a law that requires you to pay income taxes? You probably do, but if you watch this interview, you will see some strong evidence that indicates otherwise.

Former politician and film maker Aaron Russo ("Trading Places" and "The Rose") set out on a mission to see if there really is a law that requires Americans to pay an income tax. The process of discovery proves that there is no law and that the I.R.S. is a fraudulant agency collecting money to pay the Internation Banking Cartel that owns the Federal Reserve bank (private bank that is no more federal than Federal Express).

This segment from Russo's movie "America: Freedom to Fascism" is really the highlight of the film because it catches the former I.R.S. commissioner, Sheldon Cohen, telling lies.

Pastors called to defy IRS censorship rules

New campaign challenges 1954 tax law banning speech on candidates' positions

Christian pastors should stop censoring themselves in fear of an "unconstitutional" 1954 provision in the IRS code that has threatened to eliminate their church tax-exempt status if they speak out against positions held by political candidates, urges a leading legal alliance.

The Alliance Defense Fund today announced a new initiative that will challenge the IRS ban on political comment from churches and their pastors.

"Churches have for too long feared the loss of tax exempt status arising from speech in the pulpit addressing candidates for office," the ADF's white paper on the campaign confirmed. ...more

RON PAUL WANTS IRS DEAD

Candidate tells crowds at Tax Day rally the money we earn should be our own

By Mark Anderson & Pat Shannan - AFP.net - April 28, 2008

Ron Paul supporters who swarmed the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the April 15 Freedom Rally came from near and far.

One dynamic duo from Maryland, Mike Hargadon and Collins Bailey, are both running for Congress on Paul’s platform. In fact, four of the eight people seeking House seats representing Maryland are on board with Paul on at least most issues.

Both won their GOP primaries and are cautiously optimistic that they may prevail in the November general election versus the Democratic incumbents. Bailey takes on U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer, who has been in the House since 1980; and Hargadon is challenging Rep. Elijah Cummings.

They are optimistic partly because Congress is suffering from a low approval rating of 14%, according to a poll they cited. Any incumbent in Congress is not altogether popular in the first place, they reason.

Still, Bailey lamented that the American people too often are brainwashed by a corporate media bent on playing favorites and goading the people into voting for the “projected winner.” Bailey recalled that he saw a statewide New Hampshire exit poll showing Paul would have won, provided you count the many people who paradoxically said they voted for McCain but would have preferred Paul, a classic case of the media-generated “projected winner” syndrome.

“We’ve got to get the American people to stand on principle and stop looking at elections like horse races,” Bailey said.

Bailey and Hargadon agreed that since some state’s primaries are mere preference polls, then Paul supporters at county and state GOP conventions can make some serious inroads (as many have in Washington state and Missouri) to challenge the rules so delegates are not necessarily bound to Sen. John McCain. They also said a number of people in other states are running for office in Paul’s spirit—a spirit that was clearly evident among the several hundred at the rally during its peak.

That spirit erupted loudly when the standard bearer, Ron Paul himself, spoke at the rally around 11:30 a.m., earlier than expected. He and his wife, Carol, were swarmed by autograph-seekers as the congressman made his way to the stage, where the patriotic rock band Pokerface later performed.

Paul briefly spoke of the need to eliminate federal income taxes and maximize freedom for the American people, among other issues.

“This is a day of remembrance,” Paul said, referring to the infamous April 15 tax day. He said the government needs to realize that “the money we earn is our own.” However, about 100 years ago, he said the U.S. government decided to start policing the world and telling others how to live. Soon, heavy taxation came along to underwrite this hegemonic approach.

“That concept is wrong . . . and un-American,” he said. He believes America needs “a free market, sound money and to mind our own business. . . .”

He added that there are a lot of Americans are waking up and need to be mindful that the results of the Republican National Convention in September, whatever they may be, are not the be-all and end-all of the national awakening, meaning that everyone must stay the course and do their part over the long haul.

“Great countries and empires come to an end for financial reasons,” he said, as the audience, many of whom were younger adults, repeatedly cheered. “What we don’t need is more management from the government; what we need is government to get out of the way. The system we have today divides us because everybody is clawing over a shrinking pie.”

Wanda Case came from North Carolina, where she has been a Ron Paul Meetup Group member in Asheville since early in Paul’s presidential campaign, which has been stymied by near nonexistent mainstream media coverage. Still, Paul has remained in the race because his supporters, such as Case, want him to do so.

“I first saw him in the Aaron Russo film,” she said, referring to the late filmmaker’s documentary, America: From Freedom to Fascism. The next thing Ms. Case knew, she was supporting Paul vigorously. In fact, she sang the national anthem for the Freedom Rally.

“I sang for the Ron Paul rally in Greenville (N.C.) in July 2007,” she recalled. “That’s where I met the Granny Warriors, and they contacted me and asked me to come and sing the anthem at this rally.”

College student Erica Sapp of West Virginia said she has learned a whole lot in a year’s time, going from a political neophyte to a well-informed person who now bears the burden of knowing lots of scary things about our troubled nation.

“I wasn’t interested in politics until one of my friends turned me on to him (Ron Paul),” she said, adding that, since then, the questions and facts about the 9-11 attacks, about the risks of government-mandated fluoride in the public water supply and other matters are, taken as a whole, unsettling.

Brent Sams, 25, of North Carolina, admitted that Dr. Paul cured him of his support for Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who dropped out of the GOP race. “I started realizing the views I have fall in line with Paul more than any politician I had ever looked at. I mean no NAFTA, get out of NATO and the U.N., and no North American Union.”

Huckabee, he said, revealed himself as a “big-government conservative.”

AFP talked to people from numerous states, and all shared the ubiquitous concern that Ron Paul has been blacklisted from coverage by the national media. Almost as many were cognizant of the computer vote fraud going on behind the scenes but frustrated as to what to do about it.

“We still have the fervor but have lost the momentum,” said Marci Ann of Michigan, speaking of her home state. “It seems that everyone gave up after the primary was over. And of course, the lack of media coverage hasn’t helped either, but we need to keep after those delegates’ seats.”

There are 66 delegates in Pennsylvania that are “unbound,” Andrew from Bucks County said. This means they are free to vote for Ron Paul (or anyone else) and not bound to cast a vote for John McCain at the convention.

“There are several other states that have those same rules,” shouted Kathryn over the din, but she wasn’t sure which ones they were. “But people from all states should check to see because they may be surprised to learn that their own delegates are not bound to McCain, either.”

Michael Moresso pedaled his bicycle 3,500 miles across country from Santa Monica, Calif. in time to campaign for Ron Paul in New Hampshire in January and has been roaming the East Coast attending the various primaries since then.

“Oh, I can tell you that Ron Paul is definitely the people’s choice,” said Moresso. “His signs dominated every state I went through. Matter of fact, I don’t remember seeing a single McCain sign anywhere. There may be a few up by now but not then.”

True to form, no news people from The Washington Post or The (allegedly conservative)Washington Times were visible at the scene and none from the local TV stations in the surrounding areas. Both newspapers
and broadcasters ignored the rally. All would have heavily covered a pro-abortion rally.

Recently, a subscriber wrote that, according to the Book of Revelation: “The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40s . . . who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a massive Christ-like appeal. The prophecy says that people will flock to him, and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything. Is it Obama?”

Tax Freedom Day? No Way! "Double Trouble" - Ron Paul

The very concept of "Tax Freedom Day" puts the lie to the oft-repeated claim that we are living in a "free country." Ron Paul calls taxation "double trouble," saying "Big government is destructive when it takes your money and when it spends it."

 Tax Freedom?

In his recent "Texas Straight Talk" column, Dr. Ron Paul has once again soundly condemned federal taxation, calling it "double trouble."

"Big government is destructive when it takes your money and when it spends it." - Ron Paul, The Double Trouble of Taxation

The Tax Foundation is a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C.Bye, Bye, Money! Every year at about this time, the Tax Foundation calculates and publicizes a date based on their concept of "Tax Freedom Day." You can view their new, highly recommended (by me) video here.

In their regular blog yesterday, however, Downsize DC made a good case that the Tax Foundation is being overly optimistic, and that you are probably still working, as you have been since the first day of the year, for all levels of government just to "pay your taxes." "Tax Freedom Day" simply means that for the past four months you have been living in "Tax Bondage."

The sorry truth is that none of your money is needed for legitimate federal government functions. All of it and more is flushed down the drain of profligate unconstitutional spending.

In less than a minute this morning, using Downsize DC's brilliant interface, I sent the following personalized message to Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, and to Congressman Brian Bilbray:

"I am way beyond sick and tired of federal government spending. You are destroying our nation by spending money we don't have, inflating the currency, and putting my children and grandchildren deeply in debt!"

Why not take advantage of the clever Downsize DC system like I just did? Invest five minutes today to sign up, and then from time to time you, too, can help bombard congress and pressure them into doing the right thing with your money.

And now, with their permission, I turn the floor over to Downsize DC:

Today's Downsizer Dispatch . . .

Change the political environment. Recruit more Downsizers. Share this message with others.

Quote of the Day:

"If we run into such debts, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses; and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes; have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account; but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."
-- Thomas Jefferson

Subject: Is this really Tax Freedom Day?

Congratulations, you're now working for yourself. The Tax Foundation declares that today is Tax Freedom Day. From January 1 to today you were working for the government. From today through the end of the year, you'll be working for yourself.

Maybe.

Tax Freedom Day is three days earlier this year than last year, and well down from its peak of May 3 in 2000, but don't get too excited. The Tax Foundation attributes this year's change to slow economic growth and the "stimulus" rebate check you'll be getting soon. To our way of thinking this kind of throws the idea that today is Tax Freedom Day into doubt, because . . .

  • We think economic slow-downs are primarily the result of bad government policies -- and this too is a cost you're paying
  • And borrowing money from our children and grandchildren, which is the source of the "stimulus" check, seems shady to us

Plus, what about the rising prices for food and energy? We believe these increases can be laid partially, or entirely, at the feet of the government . . .

  • The Federal Reserve's "easy money" policy may be driving price inflation
  • The federal government's dubious "strategic petroleum reserve" is increasing the demand for oil above what it would otherwise be
  • Ethanol mandates and subsidies place pressure on the prices for both food and energy

Aren't these things taxes too?

And what about all the time and money you just spent filing your tax returns? Or, if you run a business, what about all the money you spend complying with dubious regulations? I personally spend a lot of my time complying with federal regulations that aren't EVEN dubious -- they're just bad. And surely these costs are taxes too.

But don't blame the Tax Foundation for not including these costs. Many government taxes are well hidden, to make calculations like this nearly impossible. If we could easily see and feel all the taxes we pay then there might well be hell to pay, for the politicians. But the politicians are clever thieves, and have arranged things so that we can neither see nor feel what we really pay for government.

But things are bad enough in terms of the visible taxes. The Tax Foundation also informs us that we will spend more on these visible taxes than on the combined costs of food, clothing, and housing. Are you getting your money's worth?

Does the government provide you with things that you value more than they cost? I don't know about you, but for me the answer is a clear NO. There's very little the government does that I value at all. Even worse, I would actually pay to get the government to stop doing many things. In other words . . .

I consider much of what the government does to be positively harmful, to me, my family, and the world at large. I firmly believe that were it not for all that the government wastes and destroys nearly all of us would be wealthy beyond our wildest dreams . . .

  • The economy would be vastly larger and vastly more efficient
  • Prices would be lower, and the quality and variety of what we buy would be greater
  • We would earn more, save more, and retire earlier at a greater level of affluence
  • And society would be better equipped to handle large numbers of retirees, unlike today

I can't prove all of this in the space I have here, but I believe the evidence is abundant and easily found. Consider just two examples . . .

  • I would rather give money to the Habitat for Humanity than to the Department of Housing and Urban Development
  • And I would rather be able to rely on Underwriters Laboratory for drug safety than on the FDA

Similar determinations could be made for nearly every area of government activity, especially if one were to do a little research before making a judgement. I believe this is very telling.

This is why we do what we do. We want to Downsize DC for progressive reasons. Governments constantly achieve less and less while spending more and more, compared to voluntary efforts that do more and more while spending less and less.

We want to foster that part of society that gives us more by using less.

If you don't think you're getting your money's worth from government, let Congress know about it. Tell them that Tax Freedom Day doesn't come soon enough. Use our "Unfunded Liabilities" campaign to send your message.

And then, please follow-up that action by contributing as much as you can, even if it's just a few dollars per month. This is a voluntary effort, competing to reduce government. Government can steal your income in taxes, but we cannot combat government, we cannot continue to grow and succeed without, voluntary support from people like you.

Please start a monthly credit card pledge of $5, $10, $15, $20, or $25, to make us grow. All of those amounts are less than a dollar a day.

Or make a one-time donation to help us make budget for April. We're thousands of dollars short of our goal right now. And we still need just one more $100 donation to earn Jack Mullen's $1,000 matching commitment. You can contribute here.

The Double Trouble of Taxation

by Hon. Ron Paul - April 20, 2008

Taxes were on the forefront of many Americans’ minds this week as they scrambled to meet the April 15th deadline to file their returns. Tax policy in this country hurts taxpayers twice – once when they pay taxes, and then when the government spends the money. Americans are sick and tired of the financial burden and the endless forms to fill out. To add insult to injury, after collecting this money the government does some very detrimental things to the economy.

The burden of complying with the income tax is tremendous. Since its inception in 1913, the tax code has gone from 400 pages to over 67,000. The Tax Foundation estimates that around $265 billion dollars and 6 billion hours are spent just on compliance. That expense amounts to about 22 cents of every dollar the IRS collects. Imagine the boon to the economy if we spent that time and money expanding our businesses and creating jobs!

Aside from the direct loss of money and productivity, the funds from the income tax enable the government to do some very destructive things, such as vastly over-regulating economic activity, making it difficult to earn money in the first place. The federal government funds over 50 agencies, departments and commissions that formulate rules and regulations. These bureaucracies operate with little to no oversight from the people or Congress and generate around 4,000 new rules every year and operate at a cost of about 40 billion dollars. There are some 75,000 pages of regulations in the Federal Register that Americans are expected to know and abide by. Complying with these governmental regulations costs American businesses more than one trillion dollars per year, according to a study by Mark Crain for the Small Business Administration. This complicated system drives production to other countries and shrinks our job market here at home.

Big government is destructive when it takes your money and when it spends it. There is no economic benefit to supporting a government sector as massive as ours. In fact, this country thrived for well over 100 years without an income tax. Today, if you took away the income tax, the government would still have revenue from other sources equal to total government spending in 1990, when government was still too big. $1.2 trillion should be more than enough to fund a government operating within its constitutional confines, and that is exactly what we need to get back to.

I have introduced legislation many times to abolish the IRS and the income tax. It is fundamentally un-American to require taxpayers to testify against themselves and be considered guilty until proven innocent. Abolishing the IRS altogether would trigger an avalanche of real growth in the economy.

With these financial hard times only just beginning, this would be the most efficient and logical way to get our economy growing again, and Americans would need not dread the 15th of April every year.

Tax Reform Promises Treats, Delivers Tricks

by Hon. Ron Paul, MD, MC, R-TX-14
Nov. 4, 2007

Representative Charles Rangel’s recently announced plan to address the impending Alternative Minimum Tax’s application to middle-class Americans demonstrates limited economic understanding.

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) began in the late 1960's because 155 wealthy taxpayers had become savvy enough with loopholes that they managed to avoid income taxes altogether. Very few Americans avoided taxes completely this way, nonetheless, policy was enacted that now threatens 25 million Americans.

Rangel's plan boasts loudly about repealing the AMT, but under the Democrats’ pay-as-you-go rules, actual tax cuts are not allowed. Congress must replace any tax revenue reduction with an increase somewhere else, and of course, there are no rules preventing tax hikes. Thus, a new 4% surtax on incomes over $150,000 for singles and $200,000 for couples is proposed to "pay for" the estimated lost revenue. This simultaneously raises $36 billion MORE than simply leaving the AMT alone, and creates a huge new marriage penalty tax. It won't be long before $150,000 is an average income, and middle class taxpayers will again face the situation we see coming today from inflation and the AMT. Overall, the Rangel tax plan is estimated to increase taxes by $3.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

With the leadership in Congress calling for this massive tax hike, spending levels promising to absorb all that and then some (thanks to our ambitiously misguided foreign policy), as well as the Federal Reserve's again cheapening the dollar, American taxpayers are wondering where their purchasing power went. We are working harder than ever before, as our standard of living falls.

The founding fathers never saw taxation as a method to direct social behavior or enforce equality. Equality to them was equality under the law, not equality of outcome, or income. It was not the founding fathers' job to manage the economy, or make American businesses competitive. That was up to the free market and American businesses. The founders sought to provide only protection of property and civil liberties such that job creation could happen naturally and peacefully in a stable, prosperous environment. They never sought to take from the rich to give to the poor, or rob Peter to pay Paul. But today, the top 5% of earners in this country pay over half of all income taxes collected, but only bring in a third of the income. One third of Americans pay nothing or receive subsidies from government.

Tax policy should not be based on the premise that government owns you and allows you to keep some arbitrary amount of your labor. Thus, the AMT should be repealed. The estate tax should be repealed. Capital gains taxes should be repealed. The income tax should be repealed. We don’t need to overhaul or adjust tax policy, we need to scrap the whole thing and start over.

But this message is not getting through to the leadership of Congress. Congress has ensnared itself in rules so that the only changes in tax policy allowed are increases, while the administration is obsessed with spending, especially spending us into oblivion by spreading this dead-end war when we should be coming home.

If Washington can only do wrong, then let’s hope for gridlock, until a more sensible Congress is in office. Sometimes a do-nothing Congress is a lot better than the alternative.
